Effects of Anxiety about Aging on Life Satisfaction£º A Comparison of the Young, the Middle Aged, and the Elderly

Abstract
This study compared the level of anxiety about aging and life satisfaction among the young, the middle aged, and the elderly. Also this study examined the effect of anxiety about aging on life satisfaction in three different age groups. Data were collected from 1,296 adults(750 young adults, 285 middle aged adults, and 261 older adults), and analyzed by PASW 21.0 and Amos 21.0. The results of analysis were as follows. First, life satisfaction had no significant differences in all age groups. Second, ¡®fear of old people¡¯ and ¡®physical appearance¡¯ were the highest in the young, followed by the middle aged and the elderly. In addition, ¡®fear of losses¡¯ was the highest in the elderly, followed by the young and the middle aged, and ¡®psychological concerns¡¯ was the highest in the elderly, followed by the middle aged and the young. Third, for the young group, ¡®fear of losses¡¯ and ¡®psychological concerns¡¯ had a negative influence on life satisfaction and ¡®physical appearance¡¯ had a positive influence on life satisfaction. For the middle aged group, ¡®psychological concerns¡¯ had a negative influence on life satisfaction. For the elderly group, ¡®fear of losses¡¯ had a negative influence on life satisfaction. Implications and future research suggestions were provided.
